Creative Diagnostics can offer monodisperse polymer microspheres based on melamine resin (MF). Melamine resin microspheres are manufactured by acid-catalyzed hydrothermal polycondensation of methylol melamine in the temperature range of 70-100 °C without any surfactants. By adjusting the pH value, the concentration of methylol melamine, and the reaction temperature, monodisperse particles with a predictable size between 0.3-15 mm can be produced in a one-pot synthesis. As a result, the melamine resin particles possess many functional groups on the surface (methylol groups, amino and imino groups), which render the particles hydrophilic and positively charged. For covalent coupling, however, these polymer-based groups are not suitable. For special applications, the melamine resin particles can be modified by incorporation of other functionalities such as carboxyl, hydroxyl, or sulfhydryl groups. Hence, the particle surfaces can be subjected to further chemical derivatization reactions. Fluorescent Melamine resin particles are produced by a dispersion polycondensation reaction in aqueous solution using melamine resin precursors and acid as a catalyst, in presence of various fluorophores. With excellent physical and chemical properties, melamine resin particles offer many advantages over other conventional polymer particles, such as high temperature resistance up to 300 °C, extremely high resistance in all organic solvents and superior mechanical stability etc.
